Week 5 of The Bachelorette was going smoothly, with the guys savoring a rare drama-free cocktail party, until the bombshell dropped: Jenn's ex, Matthew, had crashed the party. Dun dun dun. As it turns out, this was a big nothing-burger as Jenn sent him home packing. At least the producers tried? What followed was the first of two rose ceremonies where we said goodbye to Thomas N. and John.

Up next was Jonathan’s one-on-one which was prime rom-com material. They are both goofy, athletic, and they look good together, like really good. At dinner Jenn looked amaze in a killer black sparkling dress and Jonathan matched her freak in a sleek black button down. Their conversation got deep, when Jonathan shared about his past relationship failure. At the end of the day are they flames? Yes. Are there sparks? Still TBD. It’s giving major best friend vibes.
The group date was a total nightmare at a sheep farm, involving shoveling actual poop. Week to week most hated, Devin, was named most valuable farmer much to the others displeasure. Somewhat unexpectedly, Austin exited the show, bowing out with class. Jenn accepted his reasoning but it stirred up some serious self-doubt. Was she enough? The guys, being the solid dudes they are, rallied around her, reassuring her of how great she is. How sweet.
Then came Grant’s one-on-one. Horseback riding to the ocean? The scenery was straight out of a Nicholas Sparks movie and the physical chemistry was certainly there. Grant opened up about his dad's battle with alcoholism, adding some emotional depth to the date. He scored a rose and later dropped the L-word… to the guys. Grant, buddy, maybe next time you should…tell Jenn! At the rose ceremony that followed we said goodbye to Dylan, no surprise there.

The Gospel of Matthew
What can we learn from Matthew's short lived return to Jenn's life? For Jenn, Matthew's return highlighted the importance of her current relationships. To which we say, good on her. Nine times out of ten it’s a good idea to let your ex be just that. Better to move forward than to look back. That said we look forward to next week’s drama and hopefully for the guys sake, less shoveling poop.
