A simple encouragement to take your day back.

Most of us know what it's like to work long hours and come home feeling completely drained. The last thing you want to do is talk to someone, much less go out. Unfortunately, nights like this can turn into weeks. Before we know it, we're feeling lonely, bored and depressed.

Don't quote me, but I think I've found a solution: make every day spectacular. I know this sounds dramatic, but I promise it works.

I ask myself the same question every day: How will I make today spectacular? I could be having the worst day of my life and decide to turn it around by going to Home Goods. I don't even have to buy anything - just being there makes me happy. On the other hand, I could be having the best day of my life and make it even better by eating an Uncrustables sandwich. It was my favorite lunch as a kid and still slaps.

What makes you happy? What's life giving? What are your favorite foods or activities? What does your dream life look like?

Make a list and incorporate these things into your day. You may not have the time to go hiking during the middle of your work week, but how about listening to your favorite childhood album on your commute? You may have a meeting tomorrow that you are absolutely dreading. Start your day off on high note and grab your favorite breakfast.

Life is full of twists and turns. We can't always control our circumstances, but through our actions, we have power over our emotions. There are habits and attitudes that have tricked most of us into believing that our lives are boring and our futures are bleak. The truth is that life is only boring if you are.

You tell me, which one sounds better: "today sucked" or "today sucked, but I sat in the sun on my lunch break and it made me feel better." It's totally possible to not be miserable. It's not impossible to live a life that you enjoy. It can be a reality that starts today. A simple change of plans can make a world of difference.
